Makau FOSTER is from the atoll of Hao. At the age of sixteen, she left to study in Hawaii and danced at the Polynesian Cultural Center to pay for her studies. She then performed as a dancer in the United States before returning to Tahiti where she joined Te Maeva, Coco Hotahota’s troupe.

In 1988, she created her own dance school (Tamariki Poerani Dance Academy) and participated in the 1st Heiva des écoles.

In 1999, she took the lead of the professional troupe: «Tamariki Poerani». The troupe went on to win numerous awards over the years. TAMARIKI POERANI won 1st place in HURA AVA TAU at the HEIVA I TAHITI 1999

In January 2016, she gathered 2982 dancers at the Atimaono golf course and entered Tahiti in the Guinness Book for the largest number of ‘ori tahiti dancers.

Following her victory at Heiva 2017 and Hura Tapairu 2017, she decided to pass on the leadership of the Tamariki Poerani troupe to her daughter Kohaï.
